A Spring Season That Matches The Standard
New Hartford expects a lot from its basketball programs, and it should. Mohawk Valley Elite is the non-profit spring travel option built to hold up to that standard — boys grades 5–11, rosters capped at ten, six tournaments per team.
The New Hartford Central School District has one of the strongest athletic reputations in Section III, which creates a specific problem for parents here: your son is often already in a competitive winter program, so a spring club has to be genuinely better than nothing, not just busier. Our answer is structural rather than promotional.
Teams are capped at 8–10 players — most carry eight — and never exceed ten. Each team gets one coach, assigned to that team only, who is a current or former college player or coach. That combination is why a player gets real minutes across roughly 30 additional competitive games rather than the tail end of a 15-man rotation.

New Hartford Schools On Our Rosters
New Hartford Central School District players sit on MVE rosters alongside kids from Whitesboro, Clinton, Sauquoit Valley, Westmoreland, Utica and Rome — districts that see each other constantly in the winter and rarely play on the same side of anything.
That is a large part of the appeal here. A New Hartford Senior High player who spends a spring practicing with and against the best of the surrounding districts arrives at November tryouts having faced a level his section does not routinely provide. The younger grades work the same way: 5th through 8th graders come in from the town's elementary and junior high grades and spend a spring being coached in one consistent system.
New Hartford is one of our steadiest sources of players, and they come from right across the district — the senior high, Perry Junior High and the elementary schools feeding both.
Getting There
Practices & The Drive
Weekly team practices run at Herkimer College, Herkimer High School, the Borza Recreation Center and Elevate CNY. Days and times are set after teams are picked, so they fit the roster rather than the other way around. More locations coming next year.
From New Hartford, the route to Herkimer College is east through Utica and out along the Thruway or Route 5S to 100 Reservoir Road — the same building where we host our own tournaments, with three courts under one roof and parking at the door.
New Hartford has the easiest run of any town we draw from: about 15 minutes to Borza’s Recreation Center and Elevate CNY, both in Westmoreland and half a mile from each other, and about 30 minutes to Herkimer College. See New Hartford on the map.
Tournament travel is predictable and published in advance: generally three local events, two regional such as Albany or Syracuse, and one longer or overnight trip. Last season every MVE team went to Spooky Nook in Pennsylvania.
How We Fit In
MVE And New Hartford's Existing Basketball
New Hartford kids typically have a full basketball calendar already: town recreation leagues in the younger grades, CYO and parish ball, district modified teams from 7th grade, then JV and varsity. None of that is something MVE wants a share of.
Our season runs early March into late May precisely so it does not overlap the winter. We tell every family the same thing: play school ball, and play other sports. Multi-sport athletes are less injury-prone and usually better athletes, and any club pressuring a kid into twelve months of basketball is selling something. Because we are a 501(c)(3) non-profit (EIN 99-0948552), every registration fee goes back into the program — tournament entry, facility rental and coaching. Ask every other club you consider where their money goes; it is a fair question and you should get a straight answer.

Where It Leads
Beyond The Spring
In 2026, MVE players from 18 different schools suited up in the Section III sectional championships, several earned New York All-State honors, and the 1,000-point club added new members. Alumni are currently playing at St. Bonaventure, Oswego State, Ithaca College, Utica University, Clarkson, St. Lawrence, SUNY Potsdam, SUNY Poly and Vermont State – Lyndon, among others.
Year-round, our Saturday skills training at Herkimer College is open to any player in grades 6–12, MVE roster or not — skill work and live play, with a strength and conditioning block for high school players run by Utica University's strength coach. Yes. Mohawk Valley Elite is a 501(c)(3) non-profit AAU travel program serving New Hartford and the surrounding Mohawk Valley, with boys teams in grades 5-11 and practices at Herkimer College, Herkimer High School, the Borza Recreation Center and Elevate CNY.
Will AAU conflict with New Hartford school basketball?
